One of the strangest experiences in adulthood is realizing that almost everyone looks more certain from the outside than they feel on the inside. You see people moving through life with jobs, routines, families, calendars, plans. They seem to know where they're going. They understand the rules. They arrive on time. They make money. They appear to belong. Meanwhile, you can feel like you're standing half a step outside of the whole arrangement, watching everyone else participate in a system you were somehow never properly introduced to.
